Have you heard of Roland Frasier? I know that years ago I did not know who he was. Since then, lots has changed in my life. Today, when many people ask me who he is or what he does, the answer is far more personal.

You see, years ago, I met him through a chance encounter. And I wrote this Forbes article about him. But so much has changed since then that I want to tell you more. Although I’ve talked about my story in detail about how I met him, I’ve never talked much about Frasier’s history, his current net worth or what events created the man he is today.

Who Is Roland Frasier?

Let’s rewind the clock and go back roughly two decades. Back then, things looked bleak for Frasier. At one point, he teetered at the edge, shakily pointing a handgun to his temple. Ready to pull the trigger, he carefully contemplated taking his own life. But there was a big reason why. Outside pressure was mounting and it was immense.

Facing potential imprisonment by the government, Frasier felt he had no choice but to end it all. It was a period that could have finished him. Instead, it defined and shaped who he is today. And that’s often the case with failure, isn’t it? The question most ask is, what exactly happened and what changed?

In the wake of the September 11th terrorist attacks that hit the World Trade Center, the government enacted something called the Patriot Act in 2001, largely taking away much of the privacy that we were used to so that they could help stop terrorist attacks in the future.

As a tax attorney, Frasier did not agree with the government. So he voiced his concerns. And the government certainly did not agree with him not agreeing with them. So the FBI raided his office while he was overseas, took everything, and he was slapped with a lawsuit from the US Government.

That event led to a death spiral. The law firm he started would not even take his calls. When he returned, his wife left him as he scrambled to figure out how to recover. Facing 5 years in prison, Frasier’s ability to practice law was on the line and so was his freedom. Shortly after, the IRS also came after him.

Recovering from that situation was not easy. He decided to travel and run away from his problems. But something changed one day while visiting Denmark. He stepped into a church in Copenhagen with a large stained glass dome at the top.

Although he is not strongly religious, something happened inside that church that turned things around. It was there, in that church, that he made a decision that altered the direction of his life forever. He decided to confront his challenges head-on. Once he chose to keep living, his reality shifted in a new direction.

Moving Forward From The Past

Some of us are unable to move forward from past events that shaped our lives. Especially when we’re talking about deep failures. But some of the most famous people in the world have failed. The question is, will you allow failure to defeat you, or will you allow it to define you to shine?

Frasier picked the latter. And although there are always resources available for people in despair, his strength came that day in the church by looking inward. And he realized that sometimes our problems feel insurmountable in the moment, but are survivable over time as long as we persevere.

Today, Frasier has become very well known in many entrepreneurial circles.
