The One Thing Holding You Back From Success Right Now Is This

I know. I know. It’s a bold title. I’m about to share what’s standing between you and the life of your dreams.

But truthfully, deep down inside, you probably already know what it is. Don’t you?

Even if you don’t consciously know what’s holding you back from success, you do know it unconsciously. And it’s buried somewhere deep in the farthest reaches of your mind.

But first, I must say that this article is not about goal setting, discipline, habits or anything else “success” related, for that matter.

Although those things matter, some people go through a perpetual cycle of goals and habits, unable to ever truly achieve them.

So what is the one thing holding you back from success?

What Does Success Mean To You?

Before I tell you what’s holding you back from really attaining the level of success you’re after, let me ask you this.

What does success mean to you?

You might sit there and say, oh yeah, I already know what it means to me.

But have you ever actually sat down to define what it means? And when I say to define it, I mean in excruciating detail by writing it down somewhere.

If you haven’t done that yet, there’s a problem. And here’s what it is.

When you fail to define something in detail in your conscious mind by writing it down and truly thinking it through, your unconscious mind is unable to see a path to that reality.

And I’m not just saying this. because when it comes to manifestation and the Law of Attraction, there is so much evidence of this working that it’s impossible to ignore.

You’ve probably heard the story of how Jim Carrey famously wrote himself a check for $10 million dollars when he was flat broke, right?

Yet, people still fail to write things down in detail.

Why is that?

Defining What Success Means To You

Take a moment to pull out a notepad or your smartphone and start writing. Launch the Notes app or open up Microsoft Word on your laptop, or however else you usually work.

For me, I find writing on the laptop is the easiest way for me to do this. It helps with a larger field of view and a more pleasant experience in the actual typing process.

Either way, I want you to sit down and define success in such great detail that every aspect of your life is covered as if you are living it right now. Meaning, you should write in the present tense.

Describe your life, right now, as if you’ve already achieved all the success you’ve ever dreamed of.

Now, you might say to me, Robert, that’s just silly. I don’t want to do that.

Then I would say you should just give up right now and stop chasing your dreams, because they will never become your reality.

“Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”

— Napoleon Hill

This quote from Napoleon Hill is so powerful that it holds the master key to unlocking success for you at the highest levels.

You’ll see how powerful this is once you write everything down and come back to it later.

But you have to get incredibly detailed with this.

Define your entire life as it relates to the success you want. Everything. And don’t leave anything out.

The Missing Link

One thing, and one thing only, is holding you back from success. Yes, defining things in detail is a great way to manifest the future. But that’s not the actual secret.

You can employ all the tactics you want but if you’re lacking this one thing, then nothing else matters. So what it is?

It all boils down to one word and one word only.

Belief.

At the end of the day, the reason why you don’t have the success you want in life right now is because of belief.

You don’t believe in it wholeheartedly enough and you’re too wrapped up in all the things that are standing in your way.

I know that this is probably hard to hear. But it’s 1 million percent true.

When you believe in something, and it’s so deep-rooted in who you are, and you work your butt off to get there, nothing can stop you from achieving it.

So the real question becomes, how do you instill the right amount of belief in your ability to achieve something?

Where Does Belief Come From?

Belief is not something you can learn. It’s something that comes from deep down inside.

And if you want to create true belief — not just the fake kind — you must attach something so meaningful to it that it becomes part of your identity.

Muhammad Ali used to say “I am the greatest”

This is not just something he said, but something he believed. Although, he did say it and other fighters would hear the conviction of the words coming out of his mouth, and start to doubt their ability to win against Ali.

It’s clear that somewhere along the line, Ali attributed that belief to his identity and it became part of his being.

The question is, can you do the same thing?

Because the honest to God truth here is that you will never get what you want until you truly believe. And that means you must shatter all your fears along the way.

After all, at the end of the day, it’s fear that stands in the way of your ability to relentlessly believe something.

Fear builds walls when what you need are bridges.

Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs

Not only do you need to believe in yourself and eliminate fear, but you also have to breakthrough limiting beliefs.

Sometimes, fear masquerades as limiting beliefs.

For example, you might say, “I don’t have enough money to start my own business.”

That’s a limiting belief masquerading as the fear of uncertainty. After all, what happens if you run out of money to build your business, can’t pay your staff, or can’t cover your own basic expenses?

Those are major fears. But in the mind, you hear the limiting belief that feels safer.

But if you truly want to succeed at something monumental, you must breakthrough these limiting beliefs by identifying them and reshaping the narrative.

After all, at the end of the day, your narrative (story) is what shapes your reality. All you need to do is shift that story in simple ways.

So take those fears masquerading as limiting beliefs, and shift that story into something that will empower you instead of holding you back.

“I don’t have enough money to start my own business” should then become “Money is infinite and I have access to unlimited resources all all around me.”

And that’s actually true. There is no shortage of money in the world. The only shortage of money comes from a mental limitation you hold.

Once you reshape this story you have to look in the mirror and repeat it with 100% belief over and over again until it becomes part of who you are.

You’ll feel weird doing this at first, but over time, you will realize that this is the only tool you need — wholehearted belief in yourself — to achieve anything you’ve ever wanted.
